Who we are
StudentRent.com (“StudentRent”, “we”, “us”) runs this website, where property managers and individuals list student rentals and renters search for them. We decide how and why the personal data described below is used, which makes us the “controller” under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR. Protecting Your Privacy
StudentRent.com provides landlords the opportunity to share to the public, information including but not limited to property location, and personal contact information such as name, phone number and email address. StudentRent.com is not responsible for any loss or damages that result from making this information available on through our service. If you are uncomfortable sharing this information via the Internet, please refrain from using this service.

Information that you choose to put in a listing, including your name, phone number and email address, is shown publicly on that listing. Please only post what you are happy to have public.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We only set the ones needed to run the site unless you say yes to the rest. When you first visit you can accept or reject non-essential cookies with equal ease, and you can change your mind at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as a rejection.

Your browser’s local storage is also used for things you ask for, such as saving listings to your favourites, remembering how you sorted results and ticking items on the renter checklist. This stays on your device and is not sent to us.
We have switched off Google’s advertising and personalisation features in Analytics, and we do not use Analytics data to build advertising profiles. You can also use Google’s own opt-out: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Billing
Payments for subscriptions and Featured listings are processed by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. When you pay, you enter your card or other payment details on Stripe’s secure checkout page. StudentRent.com does not see, collect or store your full card number or security code.
Stripe gives us limited information about your payment so we can start your plan, send receipts and answer billing questions. This includes your Stripe customer ID, the plan you chose, the payment status and dates, the card brand and last four digits, and the billing details you enter at checkout, such as your name and email address. Stripe handles your payment information under its own privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime.
Sharing Information with Third Parties
StudentRent.com uses third parties to facilitate our business, including, but not limited to, processing payments (Stripe), providing mapping and address search (Google Maps), measuring site use (Google Analytics, only with your consent), sending email, hosting our servers and protecting our forms from spam and abuse (Google reCAPTCHA). These companies act on our behalf or under their own privacy policies and may only use your data as the law and their contract with us allow. StudentRent.com does not sell or trade customer information with third parties for profit or compensation. Personal information including but not limited to name, telephone number and or email address are only made available to the public via user posted advertisements. We may also share information where the law requires it, as described below.
Transfers outside the UK and EEA
StudentRent is based in the United States, and some of our providers (including Google and Stripe) process data there and in other countries. Where personal data about people in the UK or EEA is sent to a country without a general adequacy decision, we rely on approved safeguards, such as the UK-US data bridge (the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework), the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or another lawful transfer mechanism. How long we keep information
We keep your account and listings while your account is open. Listing drafts that are never finished are deleted automatically, together with their photos. Renter inquiries are deleted after about 18 months. Payment and invoice records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Records that an email address opted out or bounced are kept so that we do not email you again. Server logs are kept for a limited time for security and troubleshooting. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal data and your listings, except what we must keep by law.
IP Addresses
An IP address is a number that is used by computers on the network to identify your computer. Our Server automatically logs IP addresses for purposes of tracking “traffic data”. Studentrent.com uses this data to better server our customers by compiling demographic information which is then used to develop marketing strategies and provide our developers with computer and network compatibility strategies.
Links to Third-Party Web sites
The StudentRent.com web site contains links to information and promotions operated by third parties. Such links are provided for informational purposes only. StudentRent.com does not guarantee, approve and/or endorse the content of any links provided on the StudentRent.com web site.
Third-party Advertising
We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. We only allow such cookies after you accept them in our cookie banner.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
Notice of New Services and Changes
The need may arise for StudentRent.com to notify you about changes of service or offerings in conjunction with our Web site. You can choose to decline any messages sent to you directly regarding this type of material, using the unsubscribe link in the email or by emailing info@StudentRent.com to post a request to cancel future mailings.
Your rights
If the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you, you have the right to: be told how your data is used; see the personal data we hold about you; have wrong data corrected; have your data erased; restrict or object to some uses of it, including processing based on our legitimate interests and direct marketing; receive the data you gave us in a portable form; and withdraw consent at any time (for example through “Cookie settings”). Withdrawing consent does not affect what was done before. To use any of these rights, email info@StudentRent.com. We will reply within one month and may need to confirm who you are first.
Residents of California and other US states with privacy laws have similar rights to know, correct and delete their personal information and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or to the data protection authority where you live. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Changing User Profile Information
You can easily access and edit all of your account information once you are logged in.
Children
StudentRent is for people aged 18 and over. We ask everyone creating an account to confirm their age, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
Legal Disclosure of Information
StudentRent.com may disclose information when compelled or subpoenaed to in order to legally protect ourselves, the owners, and the success of our business.
User Consent of Personal Information
Using the StudentRent.com Web site means you acknowledge the collection of your personal information by our Web servers as stated in this Privacy Policy. Where we need your consent, for example for analytics cookies, we ask you separately and you can say no. We reserve the right to change our Privacy Policy at any time. If we make a significant change, we will say so on this page and update the date at the top, and we will tell account holders by email where the change affects how we use their data.
